september sun

Yes, it's sunny outside! When I woke up this morning I shivered(might have to start sleeping with closed window again) and just 4 hours later I went outside and had to take off my blazer cause it's warm(mild warm, not hot).

I did some major mistake with samus, I didn't swatch the yarn! Yes, I know you should always do it, but...well, I was a bit lazy maybe...
Good thing? I measured the cable band after the eighth repeat and it happens to be as long as it should have been after the nineth. So eventhough row gauge and stitch gauge are completely off, it will be alright and I don't have to frog. For the body I'll switch to smaller needles and my stitch gauge will then be exactly what I need! Instead of knitting size L, I'll go for the directions on size M and still get the same width as for L. Pure coincidence though, so from now on I will ALWAYS swatch.

Since my fathers birthday will be on friday and I have no idea what to get him, he will get his "christmas" present, the coronet hat. But I have a new idea for a christmas present for him- socks! I know, I said I would never knit socks, but that's a nice "easy" thing for gifts, plus I don't have any other idea...
Here's some sock yarn with which I'm going to knit a test pair for myself. It was on sale at the LYS and only cost 3.95€.

And lastely as always, sundays fleamarket finds. We went to a fleamarket a bit away from Hamburg in Horst/Elmshorn. While driving through that town a shop caught my attention, something about wool and "fabrikverkauf"(factory outlet). Unfortunately my dad refused to turn around(grrr) and I don't know the name or if they even sell yarn or just clothes...
Anyway, I brought some more yarn and buttons for 3,50€, together! The yarn, 250g, was only 50 cent! I restrained myself from buying more in colors and textures I didn't really needed. I began knitting a scarf for my aunts husband in a mock cable pattern with this yarn.

Wow, you are a busy young woman! I saw your post on the Samus list and had to check out your blog. I'm going to assume that you get all this stuff done because you're a student and have more time than a wife and mother like me. But the truth is, I used to be a student and I don't remember doing all that (other than some knitting) or being so accomplished in so many areas. I'm impressed. By the way, there is a Samus KAL blog, but I didn't see your name on it. (You probably already know this, right?)
