You can't top this!

I don't know why I didn't attempted this before. Top-down-anythings in the round are the best! No sewing, easy to put on while knitting...in other words perfect!
This top-down-raglan is made from the free pattern on glampyre.com. I really like her patterns and I'm surely doing this pattern again.
The yarn is "Coco" from Lang yarns and I only used 3 balls and a fifth of the fourth ball. That means that I have almost 6 skeins left! Haven't figured out yet what to do with it.

my top-down-raglan

simple(?!!) dress

Since my aunt really liked the other dress that I made for my 3-year old cousin and asked me to do one for her other baby girl too, I made one!
Ok, she also gave me 50€!!!!!! and a big sack of light fabric!!!
I'm suppose to make "something" out of the fabric for my cousin to play dressing up or costumes etc, cause "you're so creative and surely will come up with something cool'n cute" ;-)
Sure, no prob aunty.
What I learned while sewing this "easy" dress is that there's a big difference between bias binding and hem band- one stretches and the other one doesn't! It's really "nice" of the department store to put both on the same rack sorted by width!

Finished, but....

I completed my Lace Shawl! It only took me 2 weeks of continous knitting.
Yes, I'm addicted! As you can see on the bloging pic and the other one it looks gorgeous...

While my mum phoned with a friend of hers I stood in front of her, draping the shawl around me. I waited for her to take a pic of me.
Then I let the shawl fall of my shoulders in order to re-adjust it. I looked at my mum's eyes getting bigger and a huge grin appeared on her face. I looked down at me...
...and discovered the mess! The shawl is shedding as hell!
I was in the mood for crying, but my laughing mum made me smile. Well, for the future I'll avoid cheapo yarn for time consuming things. By the way the yarn was from the "Hamburger Wollfabrik". I don't know if returning it would be possible.
As I read somewhwere there's noway to stop the shedding and I believe it.

Please, don't try this at home

I think I've found the most ugliest dye in the whole wide world!
Here's the story behind my big discovery:

Someday last week I told my mum that you could dye wool with egg dye colors and added that unfortunately I had forgot about it around Easter.
Than my mum had the bright idea of using beetroot cause you also dye eggs with it.
Yesterday I went grocery shopping and also brought a glass of beetroot along with some vinegar. I stopped by my LYS to pick up some white sock wool.
Back home I filled the sink with water and vinegar and put the wool wound in a hank into it.
Next I put the beetroot and additional water into a pot and heated it.
Than I added the wool into it and waited...
It became a light pink! I was soooooooo thriled, but waited longer so it would really be dyed.
After half an hour I opened the pot again to discover a more red kind of color. Ok, I thought, red is good too.
Only to see the color disappear while washing into this:

ugly

And yes, that actually is the color of the yarn! I don't even know how to name it!

Sturd is finished!!!

I finally finished Sturd the weaver just minutes ago. This purse is really a lot more sturdy than plain stockinette. I tested it with some 2mm needles and they didn't poked out!
I had some trouble with my handles cause I painted them only realizing afterwards that the color doesn't want to stay on the handles. So I had to sand the handles which took quite some time.
I'll be posting the pattern later, cause I'm still trying to get a good close-up so you can see the stitch pattern.

EDIT:

sturd

Materials:
400g yarn; 200g light blue + 200g light beige. I used 4 balls of “Highland” from Schewe which you can get at Karstadt if your living in Germany ;-)
Highland is a 75% acrylic and 25% wool yarn. 183m/50g recommended needle size is 2,5-3,5mm
You can use any yarn you want to, but then you’ll maybe have to recalculate the number of stitches and rows. Of course you can also knit with just one colour, but I like the effect that is created when holding two different colour strand together.
7mm needles
handles

weaving pattern:
Row 1: *K1, yarn to front, slip 1 purlwise, yarn to back* repeat from * until end
Row 2: *P1, yarn to back, slip 1 purlwise, yarn to front* repeat from * until end

Instructions:

Front/Back:

Cast on 44 stitches.
Work 68 rows in weaving pattern
Bind off.(see below)

Bottom and sides:

Cast on 8 stitches
Work 204 rows in pattern.
Bind off.(see below)

Sewing:

Sew the three pieces together. I myself hate sewing. Here’s how I sewed it together:
While knitting I knit the first and last stitch of every row. This creates some bumps on the sides of the knitted pieces.
Now when pinning the pieces together, I looked to match the bumps and pinned the bottom corners together. Than I used mattress stitch for sewing.

Handle:

I just wrapped the yarn around my handle and inserted the needle into the bind-of row.

Bind off:
I didn’t bind off in pattern cause the result wasn’t even. But after sewing I realized that this could have been regulated by crocheting around the top. Why binding off in pattern is better?
When you attach the handles the bind off will be “lifted” revealing the last row. If you didn’t bind off in pattern(let’s say you bond off in knit like me) than this will look different then the rest of the bag. I don’t mind my top part, but if you’re a perfectionist, try binding off in pattern.

first dye and new yarn

I swear I were just looking for a new pair of jeans! I didn't wanted to look for yarn, but the LYS was on my way to the ground floor...
There was a big basket with reduced yarn for 1.95€. After a looooooooong time of thinking: "take it, no you don't need it, take it anyway, no you....", I turned around determined to leave the store without the yarn. It wasn't my colors anyway.
Keeping my eyes low watching the ground in order to ignore the beautiful yarn around me, I saw the most beautiful colors on a shelf. It was the same yarn as in the basket and without anymore thinking I took it and went to the cash desk.
"That makes 2€"
"Excuse me?"
"2€"
"öhm...2€?"
"Yes, it's on sale for 50cent. Haven't you seen it?" The sales woman pointed to the shelf with a big sign.
So, I took the four I already had an three more. I mean who could resist such a bargain? To my defense: I already have a project in mind, the Lelah top. I'll use this yarn instead of the Safari.

cheaperthancheap

And I dyed my first yarn today! It was a good idea to wait until everyone had left the apartment cause the smell was horrible. A candy nightmare!
I only used 2 packages for 200g wool and so this is a really light color. I like it anyway and was aiming for such a result. The yarn didn't absorbed the same amount of color everywhere which maybe due to the fact that the first skein was in there longer and absorbed more color leaving less for the other one. It did only take little time for the water to get clear!
It is in fact a bit darker than in the picture and the color of the two skeins isn't that much apart from another(stupid camera!)

dyeit

For nonokitty...

...no, I didn't felt guilted into beginning the Lace shawl. I felt animated to do so!
Thanks for kicking my butt ;-)

LACE!

And behold! The hol(e)y one is finished! I will for a long time not touch needles bigger then size 8mm. Ok, it was a bit faster on the 12mm one, but my wrist hurt enourmosly and I had to take a long bath filled with aroma therapy stuff to get rid of it....

hol(e)y one

P.S.: Why is there never anyone when I need to have a pic taken, but when I want to be left alone(knitting) there's always one disturbing me?

surprise! my books!

I ordered the knitting books two weeks ago and was really surprised when they arrived today, cause amazon said they would send them around the 13 of April!
After a long time of thinking which books to buy and recalculating my budget several times I decided to get S'nB Nation and the Knitter's Almanac.
The S'nB is as expected fabulous! There are atleast four projects of it on my want-to-knit-list. Ok, there are also patterns I'm never going to knit, but you'll have that with every pattern book.
I just had a quick look into the Almanac, so I can't judge it now. I'm not in a reading mood at the moment...

books

I forgot to post a sweater I brought in order to recycle it yesterday. It's a red 80%wool, 20% acrylic sweater from H&M. It was on sale for 1,90€!!!
There's a reason for the really low price I found out when putting it on to make a pic. It's scratchy as hay!

torecycle2

I made a lot of progress on my hol(e)y shawl. I must say that I don't like these big 12mm needles. I'm knitting quite slow with them and my wrist hurt(but that could also be from Sturd).

One more FO and even more WIP's

Now there's now way I can deny it, I'm a knitting addict!
First I finished the sommerscarf last evening, next comes the corresponding top!
I used just one ball of yarn and will use the other one for "branchin out". You can never have evenough scarves, right?

sommerscarf

I went to "Karstadt" today to get some fabric for a RR-purse and this yarn crossed my way. Since it was only 90 cent per ball I took four of them with me. I'm going to make a purse out of it. Watch for the pattern once I'm finished!

weavepurse

And here's the yarn for my second Lelah. It's "Safari" from GGH yarns. I couldn't resist the color though the yarn is a bit more on the pricey side. Well, so no clubbing for me this month!
I paid for two balls and reserved two more at the LYS. I tried it with 4mm and 3mm needles, but it was to sheer. Now I double it and knit with two strands held together with 5mm needles for the bottom and 4mm needles for the top part.

Lelahvs2

I also received some KoolAid from Elizabeth. Thank you!
I'm dying to try it out, but have to wait until my parents are out cause they hate this kind of synthetic smell.

One FO and more WIP's

I have finished my Lelah! It's such a wondefull pattern and knits up quite fast.
I was concerned about the yarn I used being to warm, but because of the lace it's even too chilly now to weare alone!
I'm definately doing it again with finer yarn creating a less seethrough effect ;-)
I'm currently looking for some cotton or linnen, cause unfortunately there's nothing in my stash!

Sorry, but I don't feel like changing clothes at the moment:
Lelah1

Here it's before I decided what to use for the lacing(?).
Lelah2

And some of my new WIP's:
sommerscarf

This will be a skinny scarf to go with the sommertop. I use the yarn I originally brought for the Lace shawl, but I'm using size 9mm instead of size 4mm needles for a more lacy look.

sommerponch/shawl

And in order to reduce my stash I tested this yarn on size 12mm needles(3,5mm needles recommended!). I really like the look of it and was thinking about making a Poncho or shawl out of it. Unfortunately I only have what's on the pic and 2 50g balls.

After uni I went shopping in search of pink hemband(?)for my little cousins dress. Somehow I felt like going into the little patchwork shop, just to look at the fabric I'm never going to buy, because it's to expensive(15€ per meter!). And they had 50% off some of the fabric!!!!!
Now, am I lucky or am I lucky? I brought half a meter of the Japanese girls one and half a meter of the hearty one. I did resist to buy more and only brought what I thought I would definately use with projects in mind.
I've learnt from the past and the fabric stash I own that not every bargain is a real one. Cause if you never use the fabric, it's not exactly a bargain, right?

buybuybuy

The stripey blue fabric was on sale in another shop for 4€/m! Yes, I definately feel lucky today! It will become a skirt out of the new Burda magazin. Here's a pic of it: click.
But I'm going to make it a bit shorter cause the pattern sais it's 54cm long.

I have no clue what to do with clou!

I just received a package with some yarn brought from ebay(see stash for more info!)
Also 400g "Clou" from Gedifra. And now I'm searching for ideas.
The only thing I found so far is bonbon, but i don't need that. I made a little knitted sampler on my 12mm needles, but I think I would like it better knitted on larger needles(which I don't own)....

Recycle it!

I went to the fleamarket last sunday. Yeah! Season started!!!!!
I didn't found yarn worth to buy(only scraps and left-overs), but three sweaters I'm going to recycle!
The one you see at the bottom of this post was a self-knitted sweater! Yes, you read right, this big mass of cables was knitted by a human beeing! As much as I fancy the carfty work behind and marvel the knitters skills, I have to admit its ugliness. In my opinion it's just way too much and it also goes down to my knees when worn(but has the right width!!!). Plus it was done in some kind of acrylic yarn, which doesn't do the work that has been done justice. If I ever spend that much time on a sweater I wouldn't use acrylic yarn.
Anyway, you can't see it in the pics and I forgot to take an additional one, but the seams were sewn perfectly. Wish I could make seams like this! One side was crocheted close, the other looked the same, but was done differently. I have no idea how and after spending 20 minutes trying to find out I frogged it anyway.

New'nPink

I needed a new project, I just had to. Although there are still some on my needles, but they are boring to knit or involve more thinking than I'm willing to do at the moment.
So I began knitting this in pink yarn! It's the yarn that was supposed to become a sweater for my cousin...
I swear, the next thing I'll be doing will be the Lace shawl, but I need to wash the yarn before. I don't want to run around with blue fingers all the time!

I admit it, I'm addicted to knitting! I did realize it yesterday, when I was at a club with a friend. I got so distracted by a Poncho that I stopped dancing!!!
I really wish, the light would have been better...

Got you!

Now, you didn't. I HATE the first of April and all the people who think there "jokes" are funny. They are soooooooo not. Normally I try to stay at home on this day of year, but I need to go to Ikea.
I'm going to buy some extra boxes for storing yarn and fabric.
As a goodie for today I'm going to post a link list with all the knitting and sewing list I have. It's quite a big list and will take some time.
